Parents entering the building

I hope everyone has a good start to the year.

I just thought I would send a message to clarify one of our routines.

We have a number of new families in the school and we have a number of students who are now in the main building so some may be unaware of our routines.

The simple routine is that parents do not enter the school teaching area, that being past the glass doors and past the office area. We are one of the few schools that do not have a 'buzz in' system simply because of the nature of our building, so we rely on parents following this routine.

This process is in schools to protect students, create independence in our students and allow the teachers to prepare lessons and also to protect the private property of staff and students.

We do notify families when we have an open morning so that families can visit classrooms. We have an open morning on the first day of school and one usually towards the end of he term.

We thank everyone for following this safety routine at our school.

One more note

In Monday and Tuesday high temperatures are forecast. We judge the weather to see if the students can go out to play. Usually we find they sometimes they can go outside for recess but by lunchtime it is too hot so they stay inside. Occasionally, if it isn't too bad we may let them out for 10 minutes to have a quick run, get a drink etc. and then back inside. There is no standard rule on this and we just have to make a judgement call as to what the weather is like at the time.

Have a great weekend

Regards,
Anthony Hockey
Principal

Welcome back

St Mary's Catholic School 2025.

We are all very excited to welcome our students for the start of the 2025 School Year.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, our teachers have their first official day on site. Tuesday is devoted to professional learning this year with all staff being trained how to implement our new spelling program, Spelling Mastery.

Our devoted teachers and other staff have been in and out all summer getting their classrooms ready and preparing lessons.

Wednesday is our students first day. Our classrooms will be open from 8:30 so students and their families can go up to the classrooms to meet the teacher, drop off their bags and settle in.

A lot has happened over the summer, the main thing is that the new sand pit area and garden. It is basically finished with just a little tidying up. It looks fantastic and we know the students will love it and have more play options. The sandpit area is now enormous and under shade. We moved the shade sails to that spot.

We are looking for any donations for sandpit toys.. buckets, shades, cars, trucks etc.  I am afraid our old toys will not 'cut the mustard' anymore!!

Our huge thank you to our Parents and Community. This new playground area is funded by the Parents and Friends and all the fundraising done by our families. So, thank you!!!

One other thing that happened was we had some mortar fall off the building on Cecil St. You will see it has now been fenced off to make it safe until it can be investigated properly and repaired.

Our new furniture for all our 3/4 classrooms is still about a week away. We know the students will love it.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, we can't wait!
