How does our school connect to our community?
How does our school connect to our community?
Our School connects to our local community regularly, whether that be sport, the arts or part of our teaching and learning.
Here are some examples of how we have connected recently.
- Sailing Program: Our Year 3 and 4 students learn how to sail at the Royal Yacht Club in Williamstown.
- Bike Riding: Our students are regularly riders, not only to school, but to get to some of their activities like our year 5 and 6 students riding to their Nippers Training at Williamstown Beach or riding to the Sun Theatre in Yarraville for their end of year event.
- Fund-raising. As a Catholic school we try to give the students a sense of social justice so we do support many Catholic agencies such as St Vincent De Paul, Caritas and other local Catholic organisations. Not only do we fund raise but we teaching the students about all the great work these agencies do.
- Clean up Australia Day: You will find our students cleaning up our local community on Clean Up Australia Day. Another way of making our students responsible citizens.
- Anzac Day Ceremony: Our School Leaders attend the Dawn Anzac Day Ceremonies.
- Poetry: St Mary's are big into Poetry and are regulars at the Williamstown Literary Festival. You can check us out in the program. We have also done an occasional local pub performance.
- Way fo the West: this is a local Catholic Charity that supports families in the West. Each year we have a big collection of items to support this work eg Food items, toothpaste, soap and other essential items.
- Interschool Sport: Our Year 5 and 6 students compete in the local interschool sports competition competing against schools such as Sacred Heart Newport and Williamstown Primary school
- Chess: We have our own chess club, but we also challenge other local schools.
- Junior Council: Our School Leaders are part of the Hobson Bay Council Junior Council, attending regular meetings.
