Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
God of the prophets you gifted Mary MacKillop with vision and courage.
In her we see one who was not afraid to speak fearlessly your gospel of love.
We pray for the sensitivity and imagination to read the signs of our times, and to articulate new possibilities for our own day. Like Mary, may we learn to confront all that is oppressive and unjust, and empower others towards true freedom and integrity. Spirit of wisdom, be with us as we face new horizons.
Amen
This Week we Celebrated the Feast day of Saint Mary MacKillop. May the spirit of Mary Mackillop give us all strength, wisdom and hope. We thank our Year Prep Students who lead us in Liturgy this week. They did a wonderful job.
St Mary's Fabulous Fair: Our Fair is not far away. This is a time when we all come together for our school for the benefit of your children. Funds raised will go mainly towards the development of our 10 year Landscape Masterplan. We want to turn our playground into one of Melbourne's best school playgrounds. The more funds we raise, the quicker we develop the plan. If we all commit to helping for that day in some way, the benefits will be for students in our school. I thank all families for their efforts to make this a great day for our community.
School Disco: Only one week away (19 of August) Thanks to the Parents and Friends for organising this. The students are really looking forward to it.
180th Celebrations: The students are very busy at the moment doing activities in preparation for our 180th birthday. The Archbishop will be with us on August 23rd at 11:30 to celebrate Mass. We will also be having a sausage sizzle for the students on the day. We hope many of our families can join us on the day.
Supporting school Families. Recently I was approached by a parent after school about supporting other families in the school. The parent mentioned that they knew that not every family had it easy and they would be happy to support another family. As a result, I am currently working with my school business manager to try and set up a scheme where families can support other families in our school. This may be in the form of a donation which the school can manage to help other families with purchase of uniform, school bags, school fees, camp and excursion fees and other costs like that.
Good Luck to all our students representing the school at District Athletics. We wish them good luck for all their hard work. Thank you to Mr Lovett for all your preparations.
Landscape Masterplan. Once again, do not forget to send me an email if you have any feedback on our Landscape Masterplan. I will be reporting back to our Landscape Architects soon. This Thursday night I have a zoom with Stephen Heppell from London to discuss our plans. He is a world renowned school and playground designer and thought provoker. He is very impressed with our plans and is going to give further ideas and suggestions.
God Bless
Anthony
Lacrosse - Australian Team Visit
Australian Under 21 Lacrosse Team School Visit.
For many consecutive years St Mary's students have been participating in a coach delivered sofcrosse program by quick stix. This program is a favourite among our students and often many of the students take up sofcrosse & lacrosse outside of school as a result. This term the coaches from quick stix went above and beyond, organising a visit from the under 21's Australian team. Players from the national team joined in with St Mary's students, teaching them skills, activities and even taking them on in a match. Here are some photos of the recent visit.
Junior Teams train on a Tuesday & Thursday evening between 5.30 and 6.30pm and play games Saturday mornings.
Senior teams train on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 and play games on Saturday afternoons.
Training is held at the Fearon Reserve on the Esplanade near Williamstown Beach.
In Term 3 there is a 5 week QuickStix program run in Williamstown to introduce children in the sport.
