Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
It is good to be back. Thanks to Laura and Michelle for their leadership while I was away.
This week we have the very important Sacrament of Confirmation for our Year Six Students. This is one of the Initiation ceremonies that takes place, initiating the students into adulthood into the church. This is where they make their own decisions without Godparents to speak for them. In this ceremony, each candidate has a sponsor to support them. Bishop Martin will lead this Sacrament on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm. We thank the students, staff and families for their work to prepare for the Sacrament.
Landscape plans. We now have the first draft of our playground 10 year masterplan and will be seeking feedback from staff, students and families. It is really exciting and is a total rethink of the playground and a real opportunity to turn the playground into a place of adventure, learning, inspiration and a closer link to nature. I have attached the plans to this newsletter as a chance to have a look and give some feedback. This is a first draft and changes can be made!!!
This term we also welcomed a new Learning Support Officer (LSO) Kristina Fortuna. Kristina had previously worked in Childcares and ELC's as a Director so we are excited she has joined us. I am sure she will be made to feel welcome by our community.
Change to the end of year. Due to the all of the interuptions caused by the current wave of Covid and Flu cases, all Catholic Schools have been granted an extra closure day in 2022 to assist with planning. A good example of this is that on the last day of Term 2 we had almost half the staff away for our planning day. The last day for students at the end of Term 4 will be Friday December 16. Previously the last day was Monday the 19th of December. We did have a sense we would not have had many students on that day anyway.
God Bless
Anthony
Years 3 to 6 will be participating in the Bike Ed Program
Parking at School Drop Off and Pick Up
Please be conscious of where you are dropping off and picking up your children at school times. The disabled parking is only for cars displaying a Disabled Parking sticker. Please observe the parking signs as it is often dangerous for students and their families who are using the school crossing. Also, at times, there are parking inspectors.
This week saw the College hold the very important VCE Information Evening. The event was a great opportunity to students and families to come along and learn about subject offerings for VCE. It presented the chance for students and parents to talk about tertiary pathways and the subjects students should consider for those particular pathways. It was very pleasing to see so many students and their families coming along to find out such important information.
Our next event for people to come along to in order to see the College is our annual Information Morning. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear from the College Principal, students and parents and also enjoy a tour of the school’s facilities. Registrations are essential for this event and can be made online via the Tours and Events tab on the right-hand side of the homepage of the College website, www.ecmelb.catholic.edu.au
