Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
Tomorrow night as have an exciting event with our Year 6 students performing their Poetry Slam at Customs House. It will be one of Customs House biggest gigs with the place being packed. Most families are also having a meal, so it has turned into a big community event for St Mary's. We do have a second gig at the Williamstown Literary Festival. The students have been working with Poet, Emilie Zoey Baker, since the start of the term.
Whole School Writing Stimulus: If you have been in our playground this week you would have spotted our writing stimulus. A scene has been set up and it is now up to our students to write about what has happened. May their imaginations go wild!!!
Lots of incursions and excursions this week, so school has been really busy. We are also updating our telephone system that crashed during storms earlier this year. So lots happening this week!!
God Bless and Stay Safe

Pentecost
Come Holy Spirit, and make us Pentecost people.
Let your wisdom and right judgement guide our decisions and temper our impulses.
Let knowledge and understanding increase our capacity for empathy and compassion.
Let reverence and awe fill us with gratitude and respect for all of creation.
Give us the courage to witness boldly to our faith in word and deed.
Through and with and in Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen

Support for Ukraine
In the spirit of Mary Mackillop we are asking families to help those in need, especially those in the Ukraine. Those in Europe are doing so much to help, opening their homes to refugees, my parents included; providing food and clothing at borders and so much more.
We can help too!
If you are willing and able to provide financial support to those in need in Ukraine, there are flyers in the front office.
Important dates to Remember for Term 2
We look forward to welcoming parents back to school Masses and liturgies in the Church.

The Way of the West (WOW) committee acts on behalf of St Mary's parish to work towards alleviating the plight of refugees and asylum seekers.
Asylum seekers have left their own countries and come to Australia because their lives and those of their families were at risk. Many of them have spent years in detention, to the detriment of their physical and mental well-being.
When they are released from detention it is imperative that they find a job to support themselves and/or their families. Having work is known to be an important part of their rehabilitation. To be able to earn and contribute, and have some structure to their lives, helps restore their dignity and sense of self-worth. But because of the trauma they have suffered, it is hard for them to find and keep work.
Consequently, asylum seekers need to be supported to make the transition to employment. They need understanding employers and a supportive community who are willing to give them a chance and, when they fail, be willing to give them another chance.
In reflecting on what we can do as a parish to support asylum seekers and refugees to find and keep work, the WOW committee believes it is important to obtain the employer perspective.
Accordingly, we would like to convene a roundtable discussion with people in our parish who are involved in the recruitment of employees, to better understand the employer's perspective and what might help employers consider giving an asylum seeker or refugee an employment opportunity. We are particularly interested to hear from those involved in recruiting into industries that are most likely to be suitable for asylum seekers and refugees: manufacturing, warehousing, construction, transport and information technology.
We are planning to hold the roundtable at 7.30 on 22nd June at the presbytery. If you are able to contribute your time and expertise to our roundtable discussion, please register your interest by contacting Fr Greg on 0400524363 or Gerard Colla from the WoW committee on 0416 141 772 or at gerardcolla@gmail.com – Michael Iaccarino 0400643414
