Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
Community Portal/Parent Portal: All families have now been sent a separate email asking them to set up an account. The email reads as follows:-
This email has been sent to you on behalf of your child's school ICON administrator at St Mary's School.
The link in this email will take you to a page where you will be asked to validate your details in order to be provided with a login to the ICON ePortal at your school.
Once you have submitted your details the school will be able to provide you with access to the ICON ePortal. Access to the school’s Community Portal is through the ICON ePortal.
Please note, your Login Credentials are:
The email then contains a code and a password plus a link to the site.
At this stage we have about half of our families set up. Please check your emails and set up an account.
The community portal will become the main administrative tool for families and will allow you to update addresses, medical forms, parent teacher interviews and absentee notes. At this stage we need all families to set up their account.
If you have not received an email, please contact the office to see which email the message has been sent to.
Anzac day: Thank you to our Year Six students who led our Anzac Day Ceremony last week. The students spoke and read well, giving the ceremnony the level of respect it deserved.
Canberra. Next Week our Year Five and Six Students are going to Canberra for School Camp. Despite our nervousness around Covid restrictions, it has all come together. There is some added paperwork with permits and more elements to our risk assessment, but it is well worth the effort. Students will be visiting Parliament House, Questacon and other major Canberra sites. For many students this is the highlight of their Primary School Life so we are so glad we can attend. Once again, I thank the teachers who attend who are on call 24 hours a day and receive no extra pay or other benefits. A number of extra staff attend the camp so we will have restrictions on playgrounds and some of our supports throughout the school next week.
Michael Grose Parenting Expert:Last year we were scheduled to have Michael Grose Parenting Expert come out to our School. This was obviously delayed and we have now rescheduled to August 3: 7pm to 8:30 pm. We have restrictions on our Hall of 125 people at this stage so we are hoping the restrictions ease which will allow us to have a larger audience. This will be a ticketed event at $20 per ticket. Tickets will be available on CDF Pay soon. Michael is extremely well known and we expect the event will sell out quickly. Our original estimates were for about 500 people to attend this event.
God Bless and Stay Safe.
Anthony
Living God,
long ago, faithful women
proclaimed the good news
of Jesus' resurrection,
and the world was changed forever.
Teach us to keep faith with them,
that our witness may be as bold,
our love as deep,
and our faith as true. Amen.

REMINDER - Every Wednesday is Nude Food Wednesday this term.
The Sustainability team asks that every Wednesday the children come to school with food that does not come in a packet.
The class with the highest percentage of 'Nude Food' lunch boxes will win the 'Golden Lunchbox' for the week. The winning class will be announced at Thursday morning's assembly and be presented with the ‘Golden Lunchbox’.
Congratulations to 1K for being the winners of ‘Nude Food’ in the first week of term 2.
Great effort bearing in mind there were no reminders!
It is that time again - Tournament of the Mind - This year should see a return to the usual format and be easier.
Congratulations to the Teams that participated last year - a stellar effort in difficult times.
St Mary’s came away with two honours last year despite all the challenges - this is something to be very proud of and well done to all the students who participated. It was not easy.
Tournament of the Mind is a problem solving program for teams of students from both primary and secondary years. Tournament's aim is to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment.
They are required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following disciplines:
- The Arts
A new discipline for those who have a love for the visual and performing arts!
The long term challenges will involve research before developing a creative interpretation in response to the Challenge. Plenty of opportunities for artistic expression in the form of dance, song, musical instruments, theatre and all forms of the Visual Arts. - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The combination of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics principles provides an integrated approach for students to deepen their conceptual understanding and use their creative and critical thinking skills to solve the challenges within an authentic context. - Language Literature
Language Literature Challenges will involve in-depth analysis and research of texts from a variety of fields. - Social Sciences
A journey through the moral and ethical issues confronting society in the 21st Century.
If your child is in Grades 3- 6 and you think they could benefit from such an experience please encourage them to come and talk to Mrs Lipnicki .
CALLING ALL FAMILIES THAT HAVE OLIVE TREES
Are you interested in learning more about harvesting your olives?
Are you interested in participating in a workshop to learn about which olives are suitable for pressing and those which are suitable for eating?
Are you interested in participating in a communal olive harvest and processing of olives collected?
St Mary’s has been invited to join in a local initiative to identify and map food resources in our community and share, crop locally grown food and learn more about the preserving and utilising of local food resources. Throughout the year we will be looking at other produce, namely, lemons, tomatoes and other seasonal fruits.
If you are interested please fill in the Google form attached and keep checking the newsletter for updates.

We will be hosting the Mother’s Day stall on Friday 30th April. Children will be allocated a voucher (or vouchers), which have been purchased via CDF Pay, from their teacher which they will exchange for a gift that they select. It has been a number of years since the last Mother’s Day Stall and we hope that it is a great success.
Thanks to all the families dropping in for the second-hand uniform shop on Monday mornings in the school hall. These sessions will continue to run throughout the term and is a great way to top up your uniforms.
A couple of Save the Dates:
- School Disco – Friday 4th June
- Mid-Winter Ball – Saturday 28th August
We are pleased to hosting our Mother’s Day Breakfast – Coffee and Croissant on Friday 7th May at 8am in the School Hall, followed by Mass at 9.15am. Due to COVID-19 Safe practices we do have a capacity limit within the hall of 125, which includes students, for this event. We will need to limit to one special woman in our lives per family, and you will need to complete the registration form prior to attending.
As we reach capacity we will move into the courtyard between the school and church ahead of Mass.
In keeping with sustainable practices, we ask that you bring along your keep cup, with a lid, on the day for tea and coffee service.
Please don’t forget to also complete the online registration form for Mass if you will be attending, this is a separate form that is managed via the Parish and not the school. If you are attending both the breakfast and the Mass you will need to complete both. Apologies for any inconvenience.
For Grade 5 and 6 families an afternoon tea and liturgy has been organised for Friday 14th May at 2.45pm in the Parish Centre. More details on both these events will follow next week. Again if you can please complete the registration form ahead of the event that would be most appreciated.
We will be putting together our Mother’s Day Slideshow, so we’d love to invite all families to submit a family photo with the special women in your lives. Please add your image into this google drive folder Mother's Day Slide Show Photos
More details to come next week. A big thank you to Andrew McKellar who is organising and to Lauren Dittmar for pulling together the slideshow
The Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Friday 30 April. If you have not yet had a chance to purchase a voucher we have extended the closing date to this Wednesday 28 April and can be purchased through CDF Pay.
The vouchers will be distributed to the students in the classroom prior to heading off the stall. All items on the stall are valued at $5 and you can purchase multiple vouchers for special women in your child’s life.
If you have any questions please email Tanya pfcomms@smwilliamstown.catholic.edu.au
Thank you to Tanya Dias for all the work in bringing this to life.
Jogathon Competition! The jogging and dancing in Maclean Reserve might be over but all the children (and teachers) are now eagerly waiting for that special announcement of who will win the Jogathon prizes.
The class who is first in returning all their sponsorship money will be treated to a special hot lunch donated by TreeHaus Williamstown as well as a fun activity with Kelly Sports. The class that raises the most Jogathon donations will also participate in the Kelly Sports activity. The winners of these awesome prizes will be announced at school assembly on Thursday 20th May so please ensure you get those donations in ASAP!
All money raised from our Jogathon goes directly to the St Mary's Primary School Parents and Friends Committee raising much-needed funds for several capital works projects we are undertaking in the near future.
The P&F Pantry is a meal service organised by parents to help families in our school community that may need an extra hand in times of need (illness, death, unemployment, financial hardship). Meals will be available from Term 2 please speak with the office or your teacher if you think we can help your family.
