Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
Welcome Back. It was wonderful to see our students excited to walk back into school on Monday morning. I hope everyone had a break and were able to celebrate Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus.
We had a busy holiday break with the carpet and electronic door installed over the holidays. Like any big projects, there were many things that went wrong, but we managed to get it done. Thanks to Gemma Marshall who did a lot of the liaising with the tradies over the break.
This term we have a number of things happening. Our Year Five and Six students go to Canberra in Week 3, the school is preparing for our School Review at the start of Term 3, the school continues its work with John Munro on identifying gifted and talented students through an abstract thinking assessment and we have more sessions booked in with Paul Swan to develop our Mathematic's teaching. The school is also involved in some work around School Improvement with Simon Breakspeare from Agile Leadership and we are part of a project working with Bradley Geise around Data Literacy (reading and using our school data better.) There are certainly a lot of things happening in the school, all of which are about improving the students in our school.
Uniform: As the weather is already starting to turn, the move to winter uniform is now acceptable. We have a couple of cold days coming up and we do not want our students freezing. Thank you to everyone who has had their children in correct uniform. On most days, almost every student has the correct uniform on. So thank you everyone.
Parents and Friends: Thank you to our Parents and Friends. We have been able to use some of our fundraising to purchase a number of items for the school. We now have a portable speaker that you may have already seen we are using very regularly. We used the new BBQ for pancake day yesterday and we have some new Marquees being made for us to use on sport's days and other events. So thank you when you purchase Easter raffle tickets or sponsor the jogathon, this enables us to make these purchases.
Thank you also to our Pancake makers on Tuesday. Our students always enjoy this day. Thanks Annette Bakker for coordinating the day.
Open Classrooms: Next Tuesday we will be having our first Open Classroom Morning that we were not allowed to do during Covid times. Parents will be allowed to visit classrooms to look through books and see any other work your child has been doing. Classroom open at 8:30 and finish around 9:15. We hope to see you there.
God Bless and Stay Safe
Anthony
REMINDER - Every Wednesday is Nude Food Wednesday this term.
The Sustainability team asks that every Wednesday the children come to school with food that does not come in a packet.
The class with the highest percentage of 'Nude Food' lunch boxes will win the 'Golden Lunchbox' for the week. The winning class will be announced at Thursday morning's assembly and be presented with the ‘Golden Lunchbox’.
Congratulations to 1K for being the winners of ‘Nude Food’ in the first week of term 2.
Great effort bearing in mind there were no reminders!
CALLING ALL FAMILIES THAT HAVE OLIVE TREES
Are you interested in learning more about harvesting your olives?
Are you interested in participating in a workshop to learn about which olives are suitable for pressing and those which are suitable for eating?
Are you interested in participating in a communal olive harvest and processing of olives collected?
St Mary’s has been invited to join in a local initiative to identify and map food resources in our community and share, crop locally grown food and learn more about the preserving and utilising of local food resources. Throughout the year we will be looking at other produce, namely, lemons, tomatoes and other seasonal fruits.
If you are interested please fill in the Google form attached and keep checking the newsletter for updates.

We have a busy Term 2 of activities ahead, kicking off with Pancake Day hosted yesterday, and then celebrating the special women in our lives with our Mother’s Day activities. The final Jogathon donations are due back, check out the tally below to see how close some of the classes are to return their donations – make sure you get donations back to go into the running for the class prizes.
P&F will be supporting the purchase of new equipment for the school, including four large marquees that can be used for sport, activities and events, new outdoor portable AV equipment and new BBQ, which we got to use for Pancake Day! Funding these for the school would not be possible without the volunteers and our community support. It is great to continue to enhance our school and the environment for our kids. THANK YOU!
Thank you to Annette Bakker and all our volunteers for supporting the Pancake Day yesterday, it was great to be able to organise another time to run the event.
Jogathon Competition! The jogging and dancing in Maclean Reserve might be over but all the children (and teachers) are now eagerly waiting for that special announcement of who will win the Jogathon prizes.
The class who is first in returning all their sponsorship money will be treated to a special hot lunch donated by TreeHaus Williamstown as well as a fun activity with Kelly Sports. The class that raises the most Jogathon donations will also participate in the Kelly Sports activity. The winners of these awesome prizes will be announced at school assembly on Thursday 20th May so please ensure you get those donations in ASAP!
All money raised from our Jogathon goes directly to the St Mary's Primary School Parents and Friends Committee raising much-needed funds for several capital works projects we are undertaking in the near future.
The Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Friday 30 April. If you have not yet had a chance to purchase a voucher we have extended the closing date to this Wednesday 28 April and can be purchased through CDF Pay.
The vouchers will be distributed to the students in the classroom prior to heading off the stall. All items on the stall are valued at $5 and you can purchase multiple vouchers for special women in your child’s life.
If you have any questions please email Tanya pf-comms@smwilliamstown.catholic.edu.au
Thank you Tanya Dias for organising this new activity.

We are pleased to hosting our Mother’s Day Breakfast – Coffee and Croissant on Friday 7th May at 8am in the School Hall, followed by Mass at 9.15am. For Grade 5 and 6 families an afternoon tea and liturgy has been organised for Friday 14th May at 2.45pm. More details on both these events will follow next week.
We will be putting together our Mother’s Day Slideshow, so we’d love to invite all families to submit a family photo with the special women in your lives. More details to come next week.
The P&F Pantry is a meal service organised by parents to help families in our school community that may need an extra hand in times of need (illness, death, unemployment, financial hardship). Meals will be available from Term 2 please speak with the office or your teacher if you think we can help your family.
