Dear Parents and Community,
First of all Welcome Back. We look forward to welcoming the students back tomorrow. We welcome Hannah Power, our new Inclusion Support Coordinator, Violetta Bassovitch, our new Speech Pathologist and we welcome back Gina Coetzee, our dance teacher and Paul Burke.
We have been working through the Covid requirements and finalising them today. See requirements as follows.
- Parents are now allowed on site and we ask that parents restrict their time to less then 15 minutes. Prep parents will be allowed to visit the classroom, however, other families will not be able to go into the building.
- The schools hopes to have a QR Code set up soon so parents can record when they have visited the school longer than 15 minutes.
- Schools can have assemblies. Parents will be allowed to attend once we have our QR system set up. We will start assemblies for students next week and we will let families know when we are set up for them to attend. In 2021 we will have assemblies on Mondays and Thursdays, on the other days, students will line up, but will go into class without any announcements.
So basically, if you are here for less than 15 minutes, that is fine, no need to record that you are here, but if you are here longer you need to record details for contacting tracing.
Tomorrow morning, students will line up and the teachers will collect their classes and walk them up the stairs.
At the end of the school day, parents are allowed in side the school yard. Teachers will move their class to a point within the playground to be dismissed so that we are not all in the one spot. We must try to social distance ourselves as best as possible.
Staffing News: We have had to make some last minute changes to our staffing for various reasons. Some we are still working through.
Maths Leader: Paul Burke is returning full time back to the classroom in 2021 after his disrupted year last year. Brittany Rickman will step in as Maths Leader one day per week. Brittany will no longer do the STEM role and we hope to finalise the STEM position finalised soon. Brittany was being released one day per week for the STEM, role, this just changes to one day per week for the Maths Role. Melissa Edmund's will work in Brittany's class one day per week in Term's 1 and 2.
Laura Graham: Our Deputy Principal unfortunately broke her ankle severely last week and is off work for at least the next two weeks, possibly longer. Michelle Ristovski is working full time as Deputy Principal in the meantime with Teresa Prismall stepping into the classroom. Teresa is scheduled to take over the class in Week 9 of this term.
Community Portal/ Parent Portal. We hope to have the Community portal up and going in the next day or two. This is where parents will notify the school of absenses, changes of addresses, medical forms etc. All families will need to set up an account. Within the system, there is a problem with yahoo emails and duplicate emails (parents who use the same address) and families will be asked if they can supply an alternative email.
Doors: Unfortunately our electronic doors were not installed over Christmas and this will now be done during the Easter Holidays. Our carpets are also due to replaced at this time.
Uniform: We are making special efforts to get our uniform back to where the standard we expect this year. We were fairly lenient after the Covid home learning period, due to the restrictions on shopping, but now is the time to get it back on track. A full uniform list will come out next week, but it is available on the school website if you wish to check now. Basically, the things we noticed were, students wearing the wrong socks and shoes, nail polish, hair ties etc in the wrong colours. We need to give the students a sense of pride in their uniform and it helps with the behaviour management of the students. If students know they need to follow the rules, including uniform, they generally behave better.
Finally, for those who do not know, our two big improvement goals for the year are Mathematics and Behaviour Management. We look forward with sharing this journey with you this year, especially as it is our School Review year.
God Bless and Stay safe
Anthony.
