Dear Parents, Carers and Community,
This week I am attending the Victorian Primary Catholic Principals Conference in Lorne. Our theme is Courage in Leadership with some great speakers on this theme. Our speakers include Jelena Dokic, tennis star and commentator, Craig Foster, soccer play and refugee advocate, Mitch Tambo, Indigenous artist and advocate and Saroo Brierley, who the movie Lion is based on.
Feast of St Joseph. On Tuesday we came together to celebrate the Feast of St Joseph. The Sisters of St Joseph were in charge of the school from 1900 to 1999 and we acknowledge the significant contribution they made to our school.
Naplan has been happening in the background for our Year 3 and Year 5 students. It has been a very smooth process thanks to the work of Laura Graham. The results will come out in Term 3.
Indigenous Uniform Launch: Next Tuesday at 2.30 we have the launch for our Indigenous uniform. We will be joined by Mandi Barton, our artist, Melissa Horne, the Member for Williamstown and other guests. Father Greg will be blessing the uniform and we will have a welcome and smoking ceremony from the Bunurong Council. I hope as many people can join us as possible, especially if you have never experienced a smoking ceremony. We ask that all students wear the new uniform on that day where possible as we have media here taking photos for both the Star Weekly and Melbourne Archdiocesan Catholic Schools.
Prep Parent Information Evening: We are running two sessions next week (Tuesday March 26) for new families for 2025 and beyond. Session 1 will be at 9:30 am and Session 2 will be at 7:00pm. We offer individual personal tours as well. If you have friends thinking about the enrolling at the school, let them know they can book into these sessions through our website under join a personal tour tab.
God bless,
Anthony

Gospel: John 12:20-33
Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover Feast came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus.”
Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.
Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.
Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.
“I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.
Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.”
The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but for yours.
Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out.
And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” He said this indicating the kind of death he would die.

Celebrating Catholic Education Week
On Friday the charism team represented St Mary’s at St Patrick’s Cathedral. They joined a majority of Catholic schools in the Melbourne area to celebrate the beginning of ‘Catholic Education week’ and became aware how we are part of a bigger group.
Harry and Xavier proudly carried the school banner in the procession to mark the beginning and end of the Mass. After the Mass, we joined all the other schools for a concert in the park.
Next year, we hope to take a bigger group. This year’s Charism team have kindly agreed to discuss how we can make this event, and Catholic Education week at St Mary’s a time of celebration in future years.
I look forward to hearing their ideas.
Year 3 Reconciliation
Congratulations to all the students who made their First Reconciliation last week.
The Sacrament was a very quiet, personal affair. Here a few photos of some of the students
‘Working together for justice and dignity. Walking together in hope. Building together a thriving future for all.’
Please keep thinking about others less fortunate than us.
I know that we are all struggling at the moment, but there are so many more people worse off than us.
We have shelter.
We have fresh water.
A trip to Coles or Woolworths and we have the food we need.
Remember every dollar that you donate can make someone’s life a little better.
Take a look at the posters around the school and see what we can do for a community less fortunate than ours.
Lenten Liturgies
This Friday will be our last Lenten Liturgy. This week the Prep children will be leading us in prayer with the support of the Charism team.
It will be held in the school hall before assembly.
All are welcome to attend.
