Dear Parents, Guardians and Community,
Firstly, congratulations to all the students who were Confirmed last week. Bishop Martin commented on how respectful and mature our students were. Thanks to all those involved in the preparation of the students especially Charlotte Lipnicki who oversaw the ceremonies.
FATHER"S DAY BREAKFAST
Friday Morning 8am (Set up)
Breakfast 8:30 to 9:15
School Hall
Father's Day Breakfast. Thanks to our Year 2 families who have come together at the last minute to organise a Father's Day breakfast 8:30 am Friday. (Set up 8am) They are asking all Year 2 families to bring something to share for the breakfast which can be dropped at the school Thursday afternoon or Friday morning in the hall. This year our Parents and Friends Association is trying a different model where our events are managed individually rather than a small group organising every event, so we are trying to spread the load. Unfortunately, nobody originally volunteered to organise the breakfast. Basically if no one comes forward, some events are going to drop off our calendar. Thankfully our Year 2 parents realised the situation and come forward to take on the event. Perhaps this could be a model we look at for 2024 where class levels take on an event. A reminder, if you are bringing home made food, please list any ingredients.
On Monday our Year 4 students had an amazing Billy Kart Incursion. The students had to construct a billy kart from materials using their construction skills and team work. There was also karts that taught the students how to steer and manoeuvre around obstacles. As you can imagine the students had a lot of fun.
Tomorrow, our Year 5 students are off to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. The Year 5 students have been learning about Australia's history and immigration this term so this excursion will teach the students about the Gold Rush Period of Australian history.
Book Fair: This week is Book Fair week. Thanks to Deb and Helen for organising this and all the volunteers who are helping. We love books at St Mary's.
Open Morning: So great to see so many families here this morning for our latest open morning. The students are very proud of their work and love it when you get the chance to come in and see it. I know there was some parents who arrived and some of the classes have started lessons so they missed out on seeing their child's work. It is a bit of a tough one as those classes had no parents visiting their classes for a few minutes, so naturally they think no more parents are coming so they start their lessons, so it is not done on purpose. The teachers are just trying to do the best thing for their students. I am sure the teachers are more than happy to find a time for you.... they are proud of your childs's work as well!!!
Parent Learning Walk: This Friday we are having our first Parent Learning Walk at 11:40. It will be a chance to see Maths lessons in action at a number of year levels. There will also be a chance at the end to ask questions about what you saw throughout the lessons.
School Board: This week we have School Advisory Board at 7pm on Thursday. We have two Board meetings every term to discuss issues of relevance to the school.
Father's Day Mass: We are hoping Fathers are able to join us this Friday for our annual Father's Day Mass this Friday at 9:15. We wish all our Fathers (Grandfathers, Uncles, Brothers, significant male figures,) a Happy Father's Day.
Also, a big congratulations to Ada for her third placing in her Syncrho Event at the School Sports Australia Diving Finals in Sydney last week. A amazing an achievement.
Finally, we are have lots of students sick at the moment, so please if your child is unwell, please keep them home. We are also having lots of students arriving late to school. 8:55 is the expected arrival times for students.
God Bless
Anthony

Scholastic Book Club 2023 - Issue 6
A part of our Mission here at Emmanuel is compassion, respect, justice, and responsibility and as such, we value the connections that we have with our community. One of these connections is between our students and those at our local Catholic Primary Schools. Our VCE-Vocational Major students at NDC have commenced a wonderful initiative, working with some Grade 6 students from our feeder schools. The first visit was to paint planter boxes and plan what vegetables and herbs they would like to plant in the Harmony Garden; they also enjoyed a special visit from Ziggy the therapy dog who had a calming influence on everyone that he met.
Year 12 VCE VM students attended St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy to cook breakfast and connect with the homeless. This initiative is a great learning experience, opening the students’ eyes to the world around them and an opportunity to give back to their community. We thank St Mary’s for their continued connection with Emmanuel and providing our students the opportunity to show gratitude and appreciation while offering a valuable experience for Melbourne’s vulnerable.
Book Week is the libraries’ most anticipated event for Term 3. Each day, books and reading were celebrated to this year’s theme ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. Year 8 students attended an author talk with Martin Chatterton, who had the entire year level captivated as he drew pictures of students, talked about ‘writing from your own experience and the future of writing in an AI world’. Activities that included painting pots and rocks, Giant Jenga, Kahoot, paper craft and origami workshops made Book Week 2023 a fantastic week for everyone that participated.
