Dear Parents, Community and Guardians,
Well the main news of the day is letting the community know of the postponement of the School Fair. The weather prediction is just too risky when we consider how many electrical cords we have to run through they school to run the stalls. We are looking at an alternate date before the end of the year and we are just talking to our suppliers and stall holders to work out when. We will get something out to the community as soon as we can. So, stay tuned! The students (and staff) have had a great time using the laser tag in their PE lessons this week as the equipment had already arrived!!
Other Great thing happening in our school.
Our Year Six students cycled to Yarraville last week and watched a film at the Sun Theatre.

Four staff did further training for Instructional Coaching with Trish Gooch from TG Coaching. They have now completed 36 hours of training to work with staff to improve their practice.

Luke 20: 27-38
32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to Jesus,
saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless.
Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless.
Finally the woman also died.
Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.”
Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry;
but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.
That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called out ‘Lord, ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.

Leadership Workshop
On Friday 4th November the year 5 students participated in a leadership workshop with UPP (Unleashing Personal Potential). It was a brilliant presentation that engaged and inspired the future leaders of St Mary’s. We are very excited to continue the learning and leadership work in year 5. The year 5 students will be working through the ASPIRE model this year and continuing the work into year 6.
Student Leadership Roles
This term we have been looking at the student leadership roles and structure at St Mary’s. Both staff and year 5 & 6 students have worked on what we believe leadership looks like at St Mary’s. Using the Authentic Student Leadership Development Model (UPP) we will be using the feedback and learning from our workshops to create role descriptions and responsibilities for the student leaders. We will also be developing a structure for the nomination and election processes. We hope to have these ready to share in the next few weeks with students and the community as we work towards electing our school leaders for 2023.
Racism No Way!
Racism is an issue that has been experienced in our school community at St Mary’s. To educate and support our students and families we will be using the ‘Racism No Way!’ resource in our school. The students will participate in class and buddy activities that recoginse and address racial issues. In doing this work we hope to make a difference in the lives of the students and families in our community.
Wednesday 16th November is International Day of Tolerance
"Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world's cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human."
We will be acknowledging this day by planning racism learning activities. We will also share this learning and work at assembly on Thursday 17th November.
Medical Updates for Primary Schools
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools has made updates to Medical Authority in Schools.
The updates require parents to complete a Medical Authority Form when their child requires medication at school. This form must be completed and signed by a Health Practitioner (Doctor, Pharmacist or Nurse).
Examples for when this form would be needed is if your child requires allergy medication such as Claratyne, regular daily medication such as Ritalin or a course of antibiotics.
You do not need to complete this form if your child has a management plan such as Anaphylaxis or Asthma.
A copy of the form is attached and there are copies in the office.
If you have any further questions please contact Michelle Ristovski or Madeleine Grace
With the weather forecasted for Sunday looking ominous, the Fair Working Group has made the hard decision to postpone the Fabulous Fair this Sunday. We were advised the weather posed an unacceptable risk from an OHS perspective. We are aware that there will be many disappointed people, however please be patient, kind and supportive of the Fair Coordinators at this time; they are attempting to pivot this event while also maintaining their family and work lives. We will communicate the future arrangements with the school community as soon as possible…..so stay turned.

The lively nature of being a part of the College continues this week. The Year 12 students are very well entrenched in their exams with about a week or so to go, then it will be the turn of the Year 11s. While all of this has been going on, the Year 9s from both campuses went off on camp last week. The Outdoor Ed students headed to Anglesea and braved the rain for a great camp and the remainder of students went to camp at Kyneton. Camp remains a wonderful opportunity for growth and the Year 9s certainly made the most of opportunities that were presented to them.
Just a reminder that offers for Year 7, 2024 have been distributed and need to have been accepted by this coming Friday – 11 November. If you are having trouble meeting this deadline, it is essential that you contact Ms Jenny Hendricks via enrolments@ecmelb.catholic.edu.au as a matter of urgency.
Our final experience opportunity of the Year is the upcoming Twilight Talk and Tour at St Paul’s Campus. It is necessary to register your attendance via the Tours and Events tab on the right-hand side of the homepage of the College website, www.ecmelb.catholic.edu.au details are as follows:
St Paul’s Campus - Tuesday 15 November - Commencing at 6.00 pm
We look forward to seeing you at the College soon.
